About LifeScribe
What is LifeScribe?
LifeScribe is an autobiography and legacy platform that gives anyone the tools to create a beautiful, lasting record of their life. You get a personal site where you can write stories, build a timeline of milestones, organize photos and videos into galleries, map the places that shaped you, and build an interactive family tree — all in one place.
Who is LifeScribe for?
Anyone who wants to preserve their story for family and future generations. That includes individuals writing their own memoir, adult children documenting a parent's life, families building a shared history, and organizations memorializing notable members. You don't need to be a writer — LifeScribe is designed so that anyone can contribute something meaningful.
How is LifeScribe different from a blog or social media?
Social media is fleeting and public by default. A blog is a chronological feed. LifeScribe is structured around a life — it has dedicated sections for stories, timelines, galleries, maps, and family trees that work together to tell a complete picture. Your site starts private, and you decide what to share and with whom. It's built to last, not to scroll.
What is Memorial Mode?
Memorial Mode is a feature that gracefully transitions a LifeScribe site into a permanent tribute when the owner passes away. The original content is preserved and locked exactly as the person left it. A guestbook opens for family and friends to add their memories and tributes. A designated family member can assume ownership to keep the site alive for future generations.
Early Access & Beta
How do I get access?
LifeScribe is currently in private beta — access is by invitation only. You can join the waitlist on our home page and we'll invite you when we're ready to expand. If someone already on the platform has invited you, you'll receive an email with a link to create your account.
Is LifeScribe free?
Yes — LifeScribe is free to get started and free throughout the beta. Our long-term model is freemium: all core features are available on the free tier, with limits on storage for large media libraries. Paid plans will be introduced after the beta, and beta users will receive preferential pricing. We'll always give you plenty of notice before any changes.
I was invited to a beta site as a collaborator. Do I need my own account?
Yes, you'll need a free LifeScribe account to accept an invitation and contribute. Creating an account is quick — you can sign up with your email or use Google, Apple, or Facebook. Your collaborator role (Viewer, Editor, or Co-Admin) is set by the site owner and defines what you can see and do.
What should I expect during beta?
Beta means the product is real but still evolving. You may encounter occasional bugs, missing features, or changes to how things work. We'll communicate any significant changes in advance. We strongly encourage you to export your content periodically as an extra precaution — though we do take daily backups.
Privacy & Security
Who can see my LifeScribe site?
Only you, by default. Every site starts completely private. You can make your entire site public, share it with specific people you invite, or keep it private and just for yourself. You can also set different visibility on individual sections — for example, a public site can have a private family section that only invited members can see.
Can I invite family members to view or contribute?
Yes. You can invite anyone by email and assign them a role: Viewer (read-only), Editor (can add and edit content), or Co-Admin (full access, including the ability to manage other members). You can revoke access at any time.
Does LifeScribe use my content to train AI?
No. Your content is your content. We do not use your stories, photos, or personal data to train AI models — ours or anyone else's. If you choose to use our optional AI writing assistant, only the specific text you submit for a suggestion is processed, and you must explicitly approve any suggestion before it is applied.
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes, both. You can export your full site content at any time from your account settings. If you delete your account, all your personal data and content is permanently deleted within 30 days. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Content & Features
What types of content can I add?
LifeScribe has six purpose-built content modules: Life Stories (rich written posts with images, video, and formatting), Timeline (milestones with dates and descriptions), Photo & Video Gallery (albums with captions), Family Tree (an interactive visual tree you can build or import), Maps & Places (pinned locations with stories attached), and a Memorial Guestbook (available when Memorial Mode is active).
Can I backdate posts and milestones?
Yes. You can set any date on a post or timeline milestone — past, present, or future. This lets you capture memories from any point in your life, not just things that happened recently.
What file types can I upload for photos and videos?
We support all common image formats (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC) and video files (MP4, MOV, WebM). You can also embed YouTube or Vimeo videos directly in posts without uploading them.
Can I import an existing family tree?
Yes — we support GEDCOM file imports, the standard format used by most genealogy applications (including Ancestry, MyHeritage, and FamilySearch). You can also build a tree from scratch within LifeScribe.
What does the AI writing assistant do?
The AI assistant can suggest writing prompts to help you get started, generate a draft from a few notes, or help you expand a short memory into a fuller story. Every suggestion is shown to you for review — nothing is automatically added to your site. You decide what stays.
